Financial Aid / Scholarships

Who can apply for financial aid?

  • Students attending UTMB on at least a ½ time basis who are enrolled in a degree-seeking program

  • All US citizens and eligible non-citizens

How can I apply as an Independent student (providing only my income and assets on the FAFSA)

  • Be at least 24 by December 31st of the year of your application

  • Be a graduate student

  • Be married as of the date of completion of the FAFSA

  • Have children who receive more than half of their support from student

  • Have dependents(other than your children or spouse) who live with student and who receive more than half of their support from student at the time the FAFSA is completed through June 30th of the next year

  • Both parents are deceased/or student was (until age 18) a ward/dependent of the court

  • Be a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces

NOTE: EVEN IF YOU MEET THE QUALIFICATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED AN INDEPENDENT STUDENT, YOU MUST PROVIDE PARENT’S INFORMATION ON THE FAFSA TO BE CONSIDERED FOR INSTITUTIONAL GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Why would I apply for financial aid?

  • To pay for tuition/fees, books/supplies, and living expenses

  • To supplement income to pay expenses

Where do I apply for financial aid?

  • The office is in Old Red, room 1.206

  • Office hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.       
    Enrollment Services Specialists are available to assist you during these times

STUDENT FINANCIAL AID (GENERAL QUESTIONS)

  • The website to file the Free Application fro Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is www.fafsa.ed.gov

When do I apply for aid?

  • Applications for upcoming years are available every January

  • Contact your financial aid counselor for specific instructions and deadlines

How do I get my money once I have completed the application process?

  • Tuition payments are deducted from your loan

  • The balance is mailed or directly deposited to your bank account, per your instructions to us

  • All future disbursements will either be mailed to you or directly deposited into your bank account (depending on how you want it!) according to the dates on your award letter

What is the average cost of attendance?

What percent of students receive financial aid and what is the average amount per student?

  •  Approximately 76% of Allied Health students receive on average about $19,401 per student.
