01/07/2009 Welcome Back
After a much deserved holiday break all our students have returned anxious to complete their studies. We have 25 junior students, 17 senior students, and 6 career ladder students. Our seniors students have begun taking their credentialing exams. All expect to earn the CRT credential before the end of February.
12/12/2008 December Graduation
The School of Health Professions held its December Commencement Exercise and we offer congratulations to our two graduating seniors Cynthia DelaQudra, RRT, BSRC and Everett Hood, RRT, RPSGT, CPFT, BSRC.
09/13/2008 Yikes! IKE! UTMB stops for no storm!!!
Mother Nature brings her wrath to Galveston and class is disrupted for two weeks. Our students and staff quickly regrouped thanks to help from our professional colleagues at Houston Community College-Coleman Campus. We held class there for two weeks and ultimately returned to our campus on October 20, 2008. We appreciate our colleagues' hospitality, but it is good to be home!
08/25/2008 Welcome Class of 2010
We welcome the incoming Class of 2010. Our program accepted 25 students and all were present for the first day of class. We anticipate that these students will be as successful as the graduating Class of 2008. On August 15, 2008 the Class of 2008 (14 students) walked across the stage to receive their Baccalaureate degree after they had all earned the RRT credential. Fifty percent of the class had earned the credential before May 1. We also had two students earn the NBRC's NPS (Neonatal-Pediatric Specialty) credential before graduation.
05/15/2008 Congratulations Seniors!!!!
We offer belated congratulations to our entire senior class on their successful Spring 2008 studies. Not only were they successful in their continued academic and clinical endeavors, but they have all passed the NBRC written registry exam. Fifty percent of the class has also earned the RRT credential in their penultimate semester. All are scheduled for graduation in August upon successful completion of their summer semester!!!!
05/9/2008 White Coat Ceremony
The Respiratory Care Department held a "White Coat" ceremony for its junior class. The purpose of the ceremony was to celebrate the completion of the first two semesters of didactic respiratory care studies. Dr Elizabeth Protas, Dean UTMB SHP, served as keynote speaker. Ms Martha Acevedo, BS, RRT a UTMB alumnus from the Class of 2008 also offered inspiring remarks to the class. These students are now embarking on their clinical studies along with continued didactic courses. This summer marks the beginning of clinical rotations. Students accepted the responsibility of caring for sick patients by reciting the UTMB honor pledge after they were presented with their lab coats by the Respiratory Care faculty. 08/27/2007 Welcome to our incoming Class of 2009!
The Department welcomes the incoming Class of 2009. We had 18 Foundation students starting in this cohort as well as 2 new Career Ladder students. We wish them all success in the upcoming semester!!!
08/15/2007 Congratulations Graduating Seniors!!!!

Dr Nilsestuen and Faculty hosted a luncheon for our graduating Class of 2007. We congratulate them on their accomplishments and wish them continued success in all their endeavors. A condition of graduation was that students must pass the written registry examination that is part of the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential. Our Class of 2007 had 18 graduates. Of these 18 graduates, 14 also took and passed the Clinical Simulation Examination earning the RRT credential!!! 05/17/2007 Congratulations Seniors!!!!
We offer belated congratulations to our entire senior class on their successful Spring 2007 studies. Not only were they successful in their continued academic and clinical endeavors, but they all passed the NBRC entry level exam. This accomplishment enables them to hold licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in Texas and allows them to attempt the NBRC registry exam. All our students are scheduled to attempt the Written Registry Exam this summer. We wish you luck in your future endeavors!!!

01/29/2007 Department Receives Continuing Accreditation from CAAHEP
The department received notification from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) that the commission voted to award continuing accreditation for the Advanced Level Respiratory Therapy Program at UTMB-Galveston. This vote was based on the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care's (CoARC) peer review on-site visit and its subsequent recommendations that the program was found to be in full compliance. The next scheduled comprehensive evaluation of the program is scheduled to occur no later than 2015. Click here to see our Accreditation
