Required Readings

There is no paper textbook for the course. All of the assigned readings are on the Internet. There are two general texts for research, a handbook about doing literature reviews, and a number of specific resources. See the Assigned Readings in each assignment for details. The two texts and the main resources are:
  1. Web-Based Textbook - The Whole Art of Deduction
  2. Web-Based Textbook - The Research Methods Knowledge Base by William Trochim.
  3. Web-Based Textbook - Cochrane Handbook (A pdf version of the Cochrane Handbook can be downloaded)

All assignments MUST be turned in using e-mail. You must send an email message to your instructor with your assignment either in the body of the email or attached in the form of a MS Word file. You may use other word processors, but any file you sent to your instructor MUST be capable of being viewed and edited using MS Word. Official course notices will be sent to your UTMB email account and you are responsible for reading them. You may use other email services to turn in assignments and communicate, but overall the UTMB account is the best option.

To work from home, or anywhere off campus, you will want to use VPN (Virtual Private Network) to connect to the UTMB Library and the on-line research literature. Phone the UTMB Help Desk for the details of using VPN (See below).
