To aid you in understanding how statistical results influence your interpretation of hypotheses, we present three examples.

Example One. In this example both the correlation and t-test are significant, in the directons expected, and both the hypotheses are supported.
Example Two. In this example neither the correlation nor t-test are significant, and neither hypothesis is supported.
Example Three. In this example both the correlation and t-test are significant, but in the opposite directions expected, and thus neither hyothesis is supported.

There are five combinations of outcomes for this study. In the examples we show you three possibilities. The other two outcomes are where one statistic is significant but the other is not. In these cases, one hypothesis would be supported while the other would not be supported.
