Intermediate Pathogenic Microbiology  University of Texas Medical Branch Clinical Laboratory Sciences Offers Continuing Education in Clinical Microbiology | Description: | The applicant will be given the opportunity to demonstrate:- knowledge of medically relevant microorganisms through their cellular and colonial characteristics as well as their basic biochemical reactions;
- an understanding of the pathogenesis and pathology of infectious diseases in humans; and
- basic skills in selection and performance of appropriate methods for detection, isolation, and identification of microorganisms.
| | Prerequisites: | The course is offered at the intermediate level of instruction. The course is appropriate for applicants who are completing a categorical certification through the UTMB-CLS department and for applicants with MLT or MT certification who wish to review discipline content. Other applicants may be accepted with instructor permission. | | Contact Hours: | The applicant may earn 30 continuing education contact hours (didactic only) or 60 continuing education contact hours (didactic and lab). The University of Texas Medical Branch, Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, is an approved provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences through the ASCLS P.A.C.E.® program. | | Thirty one-hour, on-line lessons will be offered over the fall semester of each year. Applicants who wish to earn lab hours will attend 90 hours lab over the semester. | | Fee: | The fee for the course is $300 for didactic only or $600 for didactic and lab. | | Presenter: | The presenter, Michelle Kanuth, PhD, MT (ASCP)SBB, is a professor in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department at the University of Texas Medical Branch. |
